How SPIRIT Club works differently
We believe fitness should adapt to people, not the other way around. Our approach is built on universal design, individual empowerment, proven success, and genuine integration.
Universal design for fitness
Every SPIRIT Club program includes exercises that can be modified or progressed. Whether you’re just getting started or looking for more of a challenge, each workout adapts to meet you where you are.
Empower people of all abilities
We give everyone the opportunity to participate in fitness on their own terms. You choose how to exercise based on what your body needs, not what a rigid program demands. SPIRIT Club rejects the idea that there's only one way to work out.
Building confidence through success
Many members didn't know they could succeed in a fitness program before finding SPIRIT Club. We design goals and training sessions specifically to help you reach them. Our coaches take responsibility for your success, meeting you where you are and supporting your progress.
Integrated, not separated
SPIRIT Club members with different abilities train side by side. We don't separate classes by ability level. Instead, everyone works out together with exercises modified for individual needs, so each person gets a fulfilling workout in a shared community.
Meet Jared Ciner
SPIRIT Club was founded in 2013 by Jared Ciner in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Montgomery County, Maryland.
At that point, Jared was working as a support counselor for individuals with disabilities during the day and as a fitness Trainer at night. He realized that many of the individuals whom he provided support had fitness goals (such as weight management, becoming more mobile, etc.) with minimal services available to help them achieve their goals. Jared started teaching exercise classes for the individuals he worked with and soon expanded the services externally.
Today, SPIRIT Club proudly serves a diverse community: people with physical and developmental disabilities, those rebuilding strength after a stroke, TBI, or other major health event, individuals managing mental health challenges, seniors navigating aging and age-related conditions, and anyone who wants a gym experience that's welcoming, supportive, and built around their goals.
