Lizzie P

About me

My name is Lizzie Pickett, and I graduated from McDaniel College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology. I am passionate about helping individuals with disabilities improve their health, fitness, independence, and overall quality of life. My background includes experience working with children and adults with disabilities through adaptive recreation, therapy settings, and mentoring programs. As someone who lives with a neuromuscular disorder caused by a TRPV4 gene mutation, I understand the importance of staying active and finding ways to move that work for each individual. I have always found creative adaptations to everyday tasks to live independently. Simple activities, such as grocery shopping, required problem-solving and modifications, which taught me valuable lessons about accessibility and independence. I also drive using hand controls, an experience that has strengthened my passion for finding adaptive solutions and helping others do the same. By combining my education, professional experience, and lived experience, I strive to create supportive, engaging, and accessible fitness experiences that focus on each person's strengths and abilities. I believe that everyone deserves opportunities to move, grow, and achieve their goals in an environment where they feel welcomed, supported, and empowered. A fun fact about me is that I love crafting and baking with my sourdough starter. Whether I'm baking bread, crocheting, sewing, or working on other DIY projects, I enjoy using my creativity to make something unique and meaningful.
